Hayley Barbara Buchanan
Artist's Statement
Born and brought up in rural south Wales nature has always played a major role in her work. She studied art at university where she worked with a range of different media including fine art, textiles, metalwork and ceramics. She taught art and design for several years before deciding to concentrate on developing her own artistic career. Influenced by Impressionism she tries to bring such elements as Seurat__™s pointillism and Van Gough__™s dynamic sky scenes into her work. These she aims to fill with movement vitality and of course colour. She says that she has an abundance of inspiration on her doorstep which she enjoys capturing in acrylics as this medium allows her to create richly coloured compositions with the added dimension of impasto work, where needed, to create more depth and interest.
